About Our Sixth Form
Harris Academy Chobham Sixth Form is situated on the Olympic Park, which opened in 2013.
Our Sixth Form recruits students from the wider area of Newham, Hackney, Waltham Forest, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and Barking and Dagenham. We are an oversubscribed sixth form with over 360 students.
The growth of the Sixth Form and increase in recruitment of our own Year 11 students, has allowed for us to see an increase in the number of students applying for Russell Group universities, with 28% of the 2023/2024 cohort taking up a place at one.
In 2022-23, three of our students secured a place at Cambridge University, with four successful applicants in total over the past ten years.
Outstanding facilities
Harris Academy Chobham has outstanding facilities for our Sixth Form. The Sixth Form Centre is on the fourth floor of our iconic building, designed as part of the 2012 Olympic plan. Sixth Form accommodation is modern and spacious with stunning views over London.
Sixth Formers have exclusive use of the fourth floor of the building. There are private study facilities as well as a social area and café. Students also have access to our outside terrace areas.
Fulfilling academic potential
Our Sixth Form students are allowed a high degree of independence in terms of how they organise their study. Students are also permitted to leave the Academy site at agreed times. However, Sixth Form life is also carefully structured.
We believe that the most important objectives of Sixth Form study are fulfilling students’ academic potential and achieving examination success. For these things to happen the students need well-structured support.
All of our Sixth Form students have a tutor to support them with study, organisation and any personal issues which may arise. Tutors know the students well and are the first point of contact between the school and home. We believe the tutor system helps students to feel secure at school and helps us to pick up any issues quickly. These things in turn enable students to study more effectively.
Out-of-lesson learning
As well as studying in lessons, all students are issued with a timetable of activities for each subject to support them in their out-of-lesson learning. This can be used across the two years of Sixth Form.
All students are also allocated guided learning periods on their timetable. These are lessons supervised by staff where students are supported in making the most of private study time.
