Community Links
We know that strong community links are also essential for fostering personal development and preparing students for the wider world.
By engaging with local organisations, businesses and charities, we provide our students with meaningful experiences that build confidence, enhance social responsibility, and develop key life skills.
We actively partner with a range of local and national organisations to offer opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom. Through work experience placements, volunteering, and collaborative projects, students gain invaluable insights into different industries, cultures, and social issues. These experiences help them develop critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership skills while also contributing positively to the community.
Community engagement plays a pivotal role in character development. By participating in real-world experience initiatives such as volunteering on Saturdays at our charity ‘Run Kids Run’ fundraising events and supporting our half-termly free uniform and food bank events after school, we are encouraging pupils to become active citizens who are aware of their impact on society.
Pupils from Year 3-13 learn about civic responsibility and democracy from planned events such as meetings with our local councillors and our local MP, and by partaking in weekend litter picking and tree planting events they learn the importance of taking care and collective responsibility of our environment and locality.
Strengthening school-community relationships
Our partnerships not only benefit pupils but also strengthen relationships between the Academy and the wider community.
Guest speakers, career workshops, working in partnership with local organisations and fundraising work help bridge the gap between education and the professional world, ensuring our students are well-equipped for future success.
Our Year 10 work experience programme gives our pupils the chance to work in our community and we invite many businesses into school to give career talks and advice. Our mentoring program with XLP and Badu Sports allows secondary pupils to learn the importance of empathy and resilience, plus our work with local developers to engage in research around providing sustainable and purposeful buildings and play areas provides social cohesion between community groups.
A commitment to lifelong learning
At Chobham Academy, we are committed to nurturing well-rounded individuals who understand the value of community and lifelong learning.
By fostering these connections, we empower students to grow personally and professionally, ensuring they leave school as confident, compassionate, and engaged members of society.
Our successful grant applications and relentless fundraising with organisations and charities such as Chobham Friends, Get Living Ltd, Hadley Property Group and Run Kids Run, have supported us to be able to heavily invest in a variety of projects:
- music provision
- planting an orchard
- designing and creating a community roof garden
- purchasing Lego Robotic coding kits
- and funding extra OPAL playground provision.
Participating in these ventures enables our pupils to leave legacies which last a lifetime and it inspires them to develop into future leaders, innovators, and change makers, ready to make a positive difference in the world.
